In California, Chardonnay is the most widely planted grape variety, and does very well in almost all coastal regions. California Chardonnays that have been barrel-fermented offer rich, intense fruit flavors of pear, apple, melon and peach, in combination with buttery and oaky notes. However, in the past few years, many wineries have started making a new style Chardonnay, fresher, with little or no oak, and with more delicate taste profiles. |
