In another first Schramsberg pioneered the Blanc des Noirs style in America, releasing this wine in 1967. Made predominately with Pinot Noir, the key to producing this complex wine is Schramsberg’s access to a diverse array of cool climate vineyards from across Napa and Sonoma Counties. A combination of tank and barrel fermented wines allows a balance between bright flavours and body and a small proportion chardonnay gives zest and backbone to the blend. The wine expresses generous aromas of red apple, apricot and candied lemon, which gradually layer with fragrances of toast, cracker and sourdough bread. Lush flavours coat the palate with cantaloupe, peach and an added hint of vanilla and marzipan. The crisp acidity gives way to a floral, honeyed finish that lingers long on the palate.
