Given the name 'The Afternoon' it should be no surprise that this is a wine for any time of day, beautifully approachable on it's own yet complex enough to stand up to the richest of dishes. After hand-picking and careful sorting the wine was fermented in barrel and then aged on lees for eight months, giving a wine full of texture, yet with the fruity, zesty character that makes it unmistakeably Sauvignon Blanc. The strong mineral background, a stamp of the Knights Valley Estate, balances the overall richness, giving a superb refinement. The finish is layered, very long and elegant.
2017 was cooler and wetter than previous vintages, a welcome relief after five years of drought. However, a warmer than normal early summer followed by a cool September allowed our Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon to gradually reach perfect ripeness. 2017 is a particularly elegant vintage of L’Après-Midi with a distinctive exotic edge. Intense and exotic on the nose, the bouquet exhibits spring flowers, citrus, and passion fruit completed by acacia honey. The balanced, rich palate adds zesty flavours, bergamot, greengage, pastry and subtle notes of toasted almonds. Present now, the signature minerality will become more pronounced over the next decade.
