Melville's Estate Syrah is one of the most cool climate styles made in California and immediately brings the Northern Rhone to mind. The fruit comes exclusively from two seperate blocks on the Santa Rita Hills estate - Donna's and Block 1. Donna’s block lends an intoxicating and high toned bouquet of flowers and spice while the Block 1 brings depth and richness to the wine. Hands-off fermentation in small, open top fermenters and ageing in neutral barrels provides structure and allows the inherent complexity of the grapes to shine through.
