Sean Larkin emigrated from Scotland to New Jersey in 1979 and, after an initial career as a sheet metal worker, he began training as a sommelier before moving to Napa Valley and opening his own wine brokerage. In 1999 he started making his own wines, initially focussing on Cabernet Franc, but quickly expanding to include a Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2004 he introduced the Jack Larkin label, named for his newborn son. This, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, originates from a small vineyard overlooking Lake Hennessy. With full body, beautiful purity and density, and a long finish revealing well-concealed tannin, it has benefitted from its 15 years in bottle, now revealing its lush depth and many layers in all their glory. Still with many years of life ahead of it, this is a wine that is absolutely singing at the moment.
