Named for one of Joe Donelan's daughters, Cuvee Moriah is a classic Southern Rhone blend, Grenache-led with Mourvedre and Syrah creating a ripe, irresistible, incredibly aromatic wine that is able to retain idyllic freshness that supports a very dense mid-palate. Where the Grenache brings bright strawberry fruit, its more exotic cousin, Mourvedre, furthers the complexity of the blend with ripe pomegranate and grilled game. A select few barrels of Syrah add depth and richness into the finish, making for an ideal food wine that is also a scene-stealer in its own right.
The 2012 vintage highlights why Grenache is such an exciting varietal to work with and the possibilities afforded by judicious blending. Although it is rare to find both in one glass, 2012 Moriah has both power and purity, laser-like freshness, a hallmark of the best wines from Chateauneuf-du-Pape that serve as its inspiration.
