Arguably the Grand Cru of California vineyards, the Beckstoffer portion of the historic original To Kalon Vineyard in the Oakville AVA was purchased from Beaulieu Vineyard in 1993. Beaulieu had purchased the property from the Crabb estate in 1940 and called it their Beaulieu Vineyard No. 4. Napa Pioneer Hamilton Crabb first planted the vineyard in 1868 and it has produced some of the Napa Valley's best red grapes ever since. Replanted by Beckstoffer beginning in 1994 to multiple clones of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with modern trellising and closer vine spacing, this vineyard produces elegant wines that are world-renowned.
2012 has been heralded as a “near perfect” vintage and no vineyard shows better evidence of this than Napa Valley’s renowned To Kalon. A cool, slow fermentation allowed the delicate esters to emerge and integrate into the developing wine. After 21 months ageing in 100% new French oak it was bottled unfined and unfiltered to allow the full expression of the flavours and structures that make To Kalon Cabernets legendary. The 2012 Knights Bridge bottling from this vineyard expresses aromatic impressions of dark red fruits, toffee, leather, and floral notes. A rich entry in the mouth with a long finish of vanilla, cassis, and sweet oak extend the lingering character of the varietal. Stunning now, this wine will continue to develop and improve for many years to come.
