Named for one of Joe's daughters, the grapes for ths wine come from a small block vines on a west-facing hillside above the town of Sebastopol. Here the Chardonnay ripens slowly under the full influence of the Pacific Coast, with cool temperatures brought on by a thick marine layer of fog that does not usually give way until noon, even in peak of summer. This cool, temperate environment allows for a protracted growing season that gives a remarkably elaborate and elegant wine with full flavour development without compromising acidity and structure.
The 2014 Genevieve’s block experienced a slight cooling during the final days of ripening, dampening the overall potential alcohol without sacrificing any of its distinct character. The trademark baking-spice quality of the vineyard is present in the intense nose of cinnamon sticks, ginger root, and cardamom. What continues to make this particular wine so compelling is its electric mouthfeel, full of verve and energy, which pairs extremely well with a dense core of crème-brulée on the palate. Now five years old the wine is perhaps at its apogee, with tertiary notes of lanolin and honey adding a stunning layer of complexity. 96 points - Wine Spectator
