This is one of the most exciting wines TOR have made. During a long afternoon of barrel tasting one day in 2015, winemaker Jeff Ames made a sample blend of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot from two prestigious vineyards in Oakville. Rarely do these two Bordeaux varietals blend as well as they did on this day, so taking it as a sign, TOR added a little Cab Sauv to fill out the middle and bottled it. The final blend of 43% Cabernet Franc, 43% Petit Verdot and 14% Cabernet Sauvignon is classic Bordeaux flipped on its head a bit with the larger percentage of Petit Verdot. The Cab Sauv brings the sweet fruit to the blend, the Cab Franc the earthy components and the Petit Verdot the spice and lift. As different as the blend is, they all worked together beautifully and have created one of TOR’s top wines of the vintage. Think of this wine as a Haut Brion meets Oakville in all the best possible ways.
