Description

J Lohr was founded in 1973 by the eponymous Jerry, who originally looked at the cool and windblown Monterrey coast. Fairly quickly building a successful business with the lovely terroir there, he expanded to Paso in a search for a place to grow truly great Cabernet. And, with no doubt - he found it. Founding the Hilltop Vineyard pretty quickly, they expanded rapidly off the back of the quality of Paso Robles fruit and the exceptional quality of the wines they were producing. Nowadays this is one of USA's favourite wines - not requiring pretence or shouting to show how damn good it is. This is a Cellar's favourite across the board, with the Seven Oaks and the Riverstone proving firm favourites amongst our customers.

The windswept Cypress tree, the unmistakable signature plant of California's coastal terrain, owes its gnarled appearance to the maritime air's persistent movement inland and seaward. The ocean's influence on the Central Coast winegrowing region is significant, keeping coastal and inland valleys refreshingly cool at night, while preserving the grape's natural acidity. J Lohr's passionate commitment to the Cypress Vineyards red wines is to preserve and showcase the alluring blackcurrant and cherry fruit flavours resplendent in grapes grown in the Central Coast.

The 2018 Cypress Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon is a deep red colour with aromas of blackcurrant and a hint of dark roasted coffee. The palate is rich and supple, leaving an impression that is serious enough for the connoisseur and friendly enough for the casual wine drinker. A delicious pairing with a range of dining options, from marinated beef to pasta, this wine can be enjoyed in its youth, or cellared gracefully up to three years.
