Description
Named for the Serpentine rock which dominates this piece of land, these are some of the best value for money wines we have found in the last few years.
Originally founded by Italian settlers in the 1880's, this vineyard has the feel of somewhere in Tuscany or Piemonte. It's the air, the trees that are planted, or the scent of rosemary planted all round the vineyard. A slice of heaven, hidden miles up a dirt track in northern Alexander Valley.
Owner Kenny Kahn has been involved for the last thirty-five years. Under his supervision they have kep this style but renewed the vineyard, nodding closely to it's Californian location as well as his own francophile wine loves. The result is a cracking fusion style that lays down well but also drinks brilliantly now.
A pale golden wine from a cool climate vineyard. Kiwi, melon and a gentle hint of quince in the glass. Beautifully balanced on the palate, Naturally creamy Viognier texture showcasing flavors of honeyed poached pear, ripe apricot, orange peel with just enough acidity. It has refinement, making it a stellar companion to a vast array of diverse and exciting dishes.
We had to argue quite a lot to get an allocation of this wine - I'm glad we did! Romain has used this extensively in tasting menus sinced it arrived, praising it as one of the most versatile wines we import.
