Description

Blue Rock might just be the hardest vineyard I've found in northern California. Up a dirt track, through an unmarked gate, and over a hill. But once you’re there, the view makes the journey worthwhile.

Founded by Italian settlers in the 1880s, this vineyard exudes the charm of Tuscany or Piemonte. It’s in the air, the trees they’ve planted, and even the rosemary that grows wild around the vines. A true hidden gem in the northern reaches of Alexander Valley.

Kenny Kahn stepped into the industry, found the vineyard and fell in love. He's kept the Italianate style while bringing a touch of modernity to its approach and planting a blend of French grapes. This has merged beautifully with the Californian terroir, creating wines that age gracefully yet shine in their youth.

South of the main vineyard, a few years back he expanded after acquiring a stunning parcel  in the Petaluma Gap where cool, coastal winds funnel through a gap in the hills. Here he's planted Chardonnay & Pinot Noir - loving the mix of the warm sunshine but allwoing the cool Pacific breeze to bring out bright acidity and complex flavors. Made in a light, fresh style, these wines are sublimely drinkable — the perfect companion for a summer’s day.

The 2023 Chardonnay presents a pale yellow hue with aromas of baked apple, chalk, brioche, and limestone, all tied together by a refreshing salinity. On the palate, you get vibrant flavours of yellow apple, lemon-lime, and a hint of apricot, with a touch of custard and nutmeg to remind you of its Californian roots.

This wine is stunning all summer long, effortlessly pairing with food while being delightfully refreshing on its own as well - get a bottle in the icebucket....
